Happy Petey

Another smiling Poi!

Shade can smile too!

It seems that Capes have a reputation of having a permanent smile on their beaks, I think it applies to most Pois. Shade looks quite happy here.

Nemo says "no"

It's also possible he was just yawning, but since the Boy took this picture, it's quite likely that Nemo was telling him off. I just find it funny!

Smile!

A favourite hang out spot

Zuri has no problem with perching on sisal rope.

Some silly pictures of Petey

And I got to say, I love them!

In light of upcoming vacations, we wanted a smaller easier to carry camera for moments where the DSLR would just be too chunky and heavy. Given I had wanted a Fujifilm X100 for some time, but could never justify the expense (and still couldn't), a compromise was made and we got the X20 instead.

I'm sure it'll come in handy, and I love that I can almost achieve a "bobble-head" look, since it'll allow me to focus while standing much closer to the birds than any of my lenses on my DSLR would. It'll make for fun parrot portraits!

Morning aerobics with Nemo

Stretch one wing...

...then the other.

Stretch both upwards...

..and finish with the banana bird pose.

A mighty yawn

How many, by just looking at the title, thought this would be a picture of Pixel?

How to avoid being in too many pictures taken (featuring Léa)

"I was good and got a pumpkin seed!"

"Oh...but she got that camera thing out again!"

"Slowly walk out of the frame.."

"...into a darker area, I'm pretty sure she doesn't like using the flash during the day!"

"I should have a bit more peace and quiet here to finish eating!"

She actually won. I gave up taking pictures once she got far enough from the window that, to get nicer pictures, I would have to use the flash (as I was already pushing my aperture and shutter speed as much as I willing to before her moving away). I did try to lure her back into the "light" with another pumpkin seed, and while she came and got it, she quickly pulled the same trick.

Smart bird.

Ready for flight

She did take off a few seconds after I took this picture.

Bird on a mission!

He only had one thing on his mind there - destroy that pink thing!

Temporary +1

Nemo, Shade's brother and my mother's bird, will be staying with us for a few days, so of course this called for pictures!

This morning, he's been giving kisses to me non-stop; he's also been getting a little impatient and I think this means he's hungry so we better scurry on and prepare breakfast for the birds.

Getting ready to move

Here is Piper, all ready to move into "action mode"! I don't remember if he chose to fly, jump or, funnily enough, just run along the rope.

Under watch

Here is Zuri, keeping an eye on me, judging when will be the best time to jump/fly onto my head. His favourite new landing spot in the birdroom, which is ironic when you consider the number of other things that, to me, appear like they would be more "fun".

Joey and his rings

He loves those acrylic rings, I think he's the only one who really plays with them.

Playful Shade

It seems that the toy with seagrass that intrigued Piper also was spotted by Shade.

Portrait time with Léa

She's entered the phase where she's not too keen on having her picture taken and will generally run away in the other direction if I get the camera out (which prompts me to put it away and explains the lesser number of pictures of Léa on the blog).

However, the other evening, I got a fairly cooperative Léa; it might have had to do with the fact that she was out of one of her usual surroundings, but she stood there nicely, almost looking like she was posing.

The next step will be to try and take pictures of her while she is playing without her noticing and hope, like it's been with the others, that it's just a phase.

Just...out...of...reach...

I love this picture!

Playful Piper

He likes materials he can easily shred, such as seagrass. He'll break away small pieces and then reduce those to nothing (which is what he's doing in the picture below - just reducing the small piece of seagrass to dust).
